Life/Form Micro-Preemie Simulator

One in eight babies arrive prematurely and have a high risk of complications, both during and after birth. The Life/Form Micro-Preemie Simulator is the smallest yet most realistic premature infant currently available and is ideal for training both nurses and parents in the handling and care of a pre-term infant with an Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW). The 25-week simulator can be ventilated and a number of tubes connected for nurses to practice the procedures on a tiny baby. The manikin is ideal for team training in delicate scenarios.

Functions of the Life/Form Micro-Preemie Simulator

• Breathing: pulse bulb manually simulates the breathing rate volume
• Ventilation: moulded-in lung forms visible chest rise. Inaccurate trachea and pharynx but will accept a functioning endotracheal tube
• GI: one nostril accepts a NG tube. Fluid drains away from the body or into the nappy
• Umbilicus: soft and life-like, with a patent vein and two arteries. Umbilical stump acts as a cork for a small cavity in the abdomen.
• IV Access: typical sites accept the tube. One is functional for the administration of fluids, which drains into the nappy area
• Chest tube: permanent site accepts a non-functioning chest tube
