What CPR Procedures Can I Practice with This Dog?

The Life/Form Dog can help students learn various CPR procedures. These must always be performed from the back of the dog. To do this, you should place the dog on a firm, non-slip surface and ensure that the manikin is lying on its right side (left side up). This will allow for the practice of the following:

  • Mouth-to-Nose Ventilation

    • Clamp the dog’s mouth shut with both hands and blow gently into the nose. Watch for chest to rise. Do not over-inflate.
  • Endotracheal Ventilation

    • Establish an airway by inserting a 6mm or 6.5mm lubricated cuffed endotracheal tube into the simulated trachea at the back of the throat. The cuff on the ET tube must be inflated with a 12cc syringe. Chest rise is visible only with the mouth-to-nose method.
  • Chest Compression

    • Place your hands on the dog’s chest just behind the shoulder, at the point where the left elbow would meet the body if the leg were pulled backward. Use the heel of your hand to activate the position light. Compression and ventilation should be performed according to prescribed standards (current guidelines). Avoid excessive pressure, as this may damage the trainer. Resuscitation may be practised with one person or two, with one performing compression while the other ventilates.
  • Pulse Check

    • The femoral artery tubing is located in the left hind leg. By manipulating the squeeze bulb, the instructor can simulate a variety of heart rates and conditions.

Low Maintenance and Hygienic

With a disposable design, the nose pieces and lower airways used with this manikin can be discarded after use. The muzzles on this CPR dog can be disinfected and reused. This reduces the risk of cross-contamination between students during training and time needed for cleaning.

How Do I Clean This CPR Dog Manikin?

For clean training every time, the fur on the body of the manikin can be unzipped, removed and cleaned by following the steps below:

  • Hand wash in cool water with a few drops of mild soap or detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Roll in a towel to remove excess water, then air dry. Gently brush fur if desired. A small amount of shedding is normal.
  • The fur on the face and legs may be cleaned by rubbing with a damp cloth.
  • Do not immerse the dog in water and never use cleaning fluids or solvents.

Made with durability in mind, the Life/Form Dog Manikin is made using high quality materials that are long-lasting and should provide extended use for many training sessions to come. For added peace of mind, this product also come with five-year warranty.
