Bacterial Filter for the DeVilbiss VacuAide Portable Suction Machine (Pack of 12)

DeVilbiss VacuAide Portable Suction Machines represent an exceptionally compact form of medical suction, ideal for use in primary care environments and by nurses or carers in the patient’s home. The Bacterial Filter (Pack of 12) is a necessary component for maintaining the hygiene and proper function of this device, and must be replaced regularly.

How Do These Filter Work?

These hydrophobic filters are designed to prevent fluids or bacteria from entering the internals of your suction machine. If fluid comes into contact with the filter, it will swell up and block the device. This helps to protect the practitioner and reduce the risk of cross-contamination between patients, as well as make sure the device does not become damaged or faulty.

How Often Does The Filter Need to Be Changed?

Since these filters are designed to keep bacteria from contaminating or damaging your device it is vital that you change them regularly. They should be changed in any of the following situations:

  1. If they become wet (in which case they will immediately close-up)
  2. In between patients/ when disposing of a canister
  3. Whenever they swell up and block the tube

If the device is being used for the same patient one of these tends to occur approximately every six weeks, but can vary significantly depending on use.

How Do I Change the Filter?

The filter is exceptionally easy to change. You simply need to unplug the used filter from the top of the canister and detach the suction tube between it the suction machine itself. Then you can push the new filter firmly into the top of the canister and reattach the suction tube.

Can I Wash the Filter?

No, the filters are hydrophobic and will swell up in contact with water. This means that attempting to wash a filter will cause it to swell up and block the pipe.

Which Devices Can These Filters Be Used With?

These filters can be used with the two main DeVilbiss VacuAide medical suction machines:

  • The DeVilbiss VacuAide 7305 Portable Suction Machine
  • The DeVilbiss VacuAide 7314 Quiet Suction Unit
