How Does the Pinard Stethoscope Work?

The Pinard features a circular opening at one end, with a flatter round base at the other end. The opening is gently placed against the pregnant woman’s abdomen, and the ear of the listener is then placed against the flatter end. As the opened end must be placed near the baby’s heart for the sound to be amplified through the device, the Pinard also helps to determine the position of the baby.
