Life/Form Intramuscular Injection Simulator

When it comes to practicing injection techniques, it is not possible to do so on real patients due to health and safety issues. The Life/Form Intramuscular Injection Simulator is specially designed to provide realistic training for the application and practice of injection. With life-like skin and muscle textures that simulate those of a live patient, students can have effective training for gluteus medius, ventrogluteal and vastus lateralis injections.

What’s Included?

  • 1 x Intramuscular Injection Simulator
  • 1 x Carry case

Who Can use This Simulator?

This Simulator can be used by a number of students and practitioners such as:

  • Medical students
  • Trainers
  • Nurses
  • Paediatricians
  • Other healthcare professionals

Key Features and Benefits

  • For intramuscular injection training
  • Ideal for medical students and practitioners
  • Anatomical landmarks for user guidance
  • Realistic features for life-like training
  • Allows for the practice of a number of injection techniques

Anatomical Landmarks

This Life/Form trainer has been constructed with various details and landmarks that help teach proper injection procedures. These include the following:

  • Greater trochanter/femur
  • Posterior superior iliac spine
  • Anterior superior iliac spine
  • Sacrum
  • Gluteus medius
  • Gluteus maximus muscles
  • Sciatic nerve
  • Vascular structures

How Realistic Is the Simulator?

Designed with several palpating landmarks and features that provide students with a tactile training experience, the Life/Form Intramuscular Injection Simulator can be used for a variety of injection techniques. Its life-like skin and muscle textures mean students can feel the sensation of administering an actual injection when they perforate the tissue with a needle.

What Injection Procedures Can Be Performed With this Simulator?

This Injections Simulator from Simulaids is an incredibly realistic and functional training aid that can be used to teach the following injection techniques:

  • Gluteus Medius Injections

This is one of the most common sites for giving posterior injections and can be administered when a patient is in a prone position with their toes flexed inwards. This will allow for the posterior muscles to relax. The student then identifies the greater trochanter and draws an imaginary line from there to the crest of the posterior iliac crest. An injection may be given anywhere above and outside of this imaginary plane. The needle should penetrate on a direct back-to-front route.

Another technique is to place the palm of the hand over the trochanter and extend the spread fingers towards the posterior iliac spine. An injection may then be safely administered by entrance between the thumb and index finger.

  • Ventrigluteal Injections

Away from major blood vessels and nerves, this site has good muscle density and so is a frequently used injection site, especially for paediatric patients. The patient is best injected when in a supine position but can also be in a prone position, on their side, or standing.

The student defines the site by locating the greater trochanter and placing their palm on it. The student’s index finger should then reach towards the anterior iliac crest, moving their middle finger away from their index. The triangle between the two is the safe site to inject. The needle should be inserted towards the iliac crest at a slight upward angle.

  • Vastus Lateralis Injections

Far from the major vessels and nerves, this site is often used for injections in paediatric patients. With the patient in the supine position, the student is able to identify the site by positioning one hand above the knee and the other below the greater trochanter. The area between the hands is safe to inject.

Easy to Visualise

To allow students to visualise the underlying structures, a section of the upper, outer quadrant of the left gluteal area is cut away where the gluteus medius, gluteus maximus muscles, sciatic nerve and vascular structures can clearly be seen.

Embedded Structure for Realistic Training

A simulated bony structure is embedded in the torso of the training device to represent the superior end of the femur or greater trochanter. These bone structures are positioned in a way so that students are able to palpate the anatomical landmarks in order to identify the gluteal sites for injection.

How Long Will this Life/Form Intramuscular Injection Simulator Last?

Made with durability in mind, this Life/Form trainer is made using high-quality materials that are long-lasting so you can have extended training. This product also comes with five-year warranty so you can have peace of mind with your purchase.

How Do I Clean this Simulator?

To clean this Injection Simulator, remove the normal soil on the surface of this simulator with mild soap and lukewarm water. Avoid using solvents or corrosive materials as this will damage the simulator. Do not place the simulator on any printer paper as they will leave indelible stains.
