Medpage MP5 Epileptic Seizure Movement Detector Alarm

The Medpage MP5 Epileptic Seizure Movement Detector Alarm is designed to ensure that carers, guardians and parents will be alerted through the night when an epilepsy suffer is having a seizure. A sensor slips under the mattress and once it monitors unnatural movement and noise, it will send an alert to two pagers that will make a noise and vibrate, ideal for waking up deep sleepers who provide care to an epilepsy sufferer.

What’s in the Box?

The Medpage MP5 includes the following with every purchase:

  • 1 x MP5 Sensor Unit
  • 2 x MPPL Pager Units
  • 1 x Bed Sensor
  • 1 x Power Adaptor
  • 1 x User Instructions

Who is the Medpage MP5 Seizure Alarm For?

The Medpage MP5 Epileptic Seizure Detector Alarm is designed to alert carers, parents and guardians when their child, friend or patient is having an epileptic fit through the night. It is specifically designed for young adults who may still live with their parents or adults who need care regarding their epilepsy. It is suitable for people who suffer from tonic-clonic seizures, and is best suited to a single bed.

How Does the Medpage Epileptic Seizure Alarm Work?

After you place the motion sensor under the mattress, the monitor is plugged in and then the user can forget about the alarm. The sensor will monitor sounds and motion and once activated an alert will be sent to one of the two pagers which will either make or a noise, emit a light, or start to vibrate.

What Will Cause the Alarm to Sound?

The alarm will sound because of two reasons; movement and noise. Unnatural and violent movement over a small period of time will be registered by the monitor and cause it to activate. Stiffening and jerking (components of a tonic-clonic seizures will also cause activation, with the alarm detecting seizure movement as quickly as five seconds.

Medpage recognise that some sufferers are vocal during an epileptic seizure. To ensure reliable detection of minor convulsive seizures a built in microphone is tuned to constantly monitor human sound. This intelligent design feature can combine minor movement with unusual sounds, which in turn will trigger an alert.

How Do I Set Up the MP5 Epileptic Seizure Detector Alarm?

What makes the Medpage MP5 Detector Alarm one of our best selling alarm products is its ease of use. To set your alarm up, please follow these simple instructions:

  1. Plug the monitor into the mains and tweak the control dial to measure the amount of time needed for a fit to cause an alert.
  2. Place the movement sensor underneath the user’s mattress at approximately shoulder height position.
  3. If your bed has slats, you can position the sensor on a piece of card that is on top of the slats.
  4. Place your two pagers in positions in the house where you can be easily alerted such as the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.

How Will the Carer, Parent or Guardian be Alerted?

Your two carer pagers that are supplied with your purchase can either be set to vibrate, to make a noise or to both vibrate and make a noise. You can position the pagers anywhere you like, but we would recommend using them in the bedroom beside your bed so that you are woken up should they be triggered. The alarms are loud like an ordinary alarm clock, ensuring that you won’t sleep through a seizure.

What is the Range of the Medpage MP5 Seizure Movement Alarm?

If you work in a care home or care facility, you might be concerned about the distance between the pager and the monitor, especially if your care home has many patients. Thankfully, the Medpage MP5 Seizure Alarm has a range of 100m, ensuring that the alarm will still be triggered even if you are based at the other side of the building to the sufferer.

How Can I Adjust the Alarm to Make it Suitable for My Needs?

Your alarms have a number of different settings. Your first choice is to decide which type of alert you want. This can either be noise, vibrations, or if you wish, both.

Your second choice decides how long you want the sensor to measure unnatural movement before it triggers an alert. This can be anywhere between two seconds and 20, ideal for those who may like to toss and turn while asleep.

Why Won’t the Alarm be Alerted by Natural Sleeping Movement?

Medpage have designed this alarm system with the understanding that people naturally move and cough during sleep and while trying to get to sleep. As you can tailor the alarm to sound after movement between two and 20 seconds, this gives the user the time to cough, sneeze and change positions in their sleep without setting off the alarm.

How Does the Medpage MP5 Alarm Warn of Low Battery?

Your Medpage Alarm will start to send out warnings two weeks prior to battery failure. This can take the form of a sound and flashing LED light, and ensures that you will always be aware of when the battery is about to run out. Furthermore, the device can be mains powered, but the batteries will kick into action should there be a power cut.

Is the Medpage MP5 Epileptic Alarm User-Friendly?

All of the Medpage devices are ready for use straight out of the box, with batteries already inserted and ready to go. This makes them some of the most user-friendly care alarms on the market. The design is extremely easy to use, meaning that not only do you not need to spend setting the device up, but you will be able to use it on the evening of purchase.

Why Does the Medpage MP5 Ensure You a Better Night’s Sleep?

If you care or know someone who suffers from epilepsy, then you’ll be fully aware that sometimes sleeping at night can be a worrying experience. If you fall asleep and a seizure occurs, you’ll be unaware and unable to help. As a result, it’s common for those who know sufferers to spend the night barely asleep, waiting for the next seizure to take place.

This Epileptic Seizure Alarm reduces this worry significantly, as you can sleep knowing that should a seizure occur then you’ll be alerted within seconds. The alarm is as loud as a normal alarm and comes with vibration, perfect for waking even the deepest of sleepers.
